Tadoba Andheri National Park, also known as Tadoba Tiger Reserve, is a national park and tiger reserve located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in the state, and is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, and Indian gaur. The park is named after the local deity Taru, who is revered by the local Gond tribe.

  • The history behind the name Tadoba National Park is believed that ‘Tadoba’ means ‘Taru’ was a chief of the village, who was killed in a legendary encounter with tiger, is the God worshipped by the tribals living in the dense forest, whereas ‘Andahri’ refers the Andhari river.
  • Tadoba National Park and Andhari wildlife sanctuary combined in the year 1995 to form ‘Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve’.
