Wildlife in Tadoba
“Tadoba National Park” – The largest and oldest National Park in Maharashtra, Often referred as the jewel of Vidarbha, which is located in Chandrapur distict. It is one of India’s47 existing prject tiger reserves, which has endless treasure trove of large number of species of flora and fauna. It is also known as “Andhari Tiger Reserve”.
The history behind the name Tadoba National Parkis belived that ‘Tadoba’ means ‘Taru’ was a chief of village, who was killed in a legendary encounter with tiger, is the God worshiped by the tribals living in the dense forest, whereas ‘Andahri’ refers the Andhari river. Tadoba National Park and Andhari wildlife sanctuary combined in the year 1995 as to form ‘Tadabo – Andhari Tiger Reserve’
Total area of Tadoba National Park is wear about 300 acres, out of which-
Toatl Core area is 625.40 sq. km
Total buffer area is 1101.60 sq. km
Protected forest area is 32.51 sq. km
Other areas are 14.93 sq. km
Tadoba reveals majestic jungle ambience and notifies highly impressive penorma to attain a perfect jungle experience with huge and captivating attraction of Tadoba Lake, Kolsa Lake and Andhari River; which ensures rich water resources for the park as well as nestles aquatic life and is habitat for Muggar Crocodiles.
Tadoba reserves cover the Chimur Hills and Andhari sanctuary covers Moharli and kolsa ranges. It is bounded on the northern and western side by densely forested hills.
Flora and Fauna:-
The area of this tiger reserve is covered with lush green forest land, relieved by smooth meadows and deep valleys to preserve the unique biodiversity available in Maharastra.
Apart from the species of Bengal Tiger, this park is home for other animal also like – Leopard, Spotted Dears, Sloth Bears, Indian Bison (Gaur), Sambar, Antilope (4 horned), Wild Boars, Chital, Blue Bull, Indian Pangolin, Jackal, Fox, Hynas, etc.
Some Birds Like – Peacock, Serpent, Eagle, Paradise fly catcher, Horn bill, etc. along with reptiles and spiders can be seen easily
Most Popular Trees – Teak, Bamboo, Shisham, Semal, Mahua, Arjuna, alongwith Axel wood (fire resistant species) and Butea monosperma (pals tree/forest fire) adds vivacious color to this forest.
